Yesterday a ban on smoking went into effect in many public places in France (article). It’s actually the enforcement of a law that has been around since 1991. This is the first wave of enforcement.
I’ve noticed new signs posted announcing the enforcement of the ban (with a penalty of 68 euros per infraction), e.g. in the metro and at the gymnasium where I play judo. I’ve also noticed that the group who usually smoke in the stairwell in the building where I work have taken their habit elsewhere.
